Woodroffe students reap the rewards
11:00am Saturday 7th April 2012 in Lyme Regis By James Tourgout
HEADTEACHER Richard Steward praised pupils as they received honours at the Woodroffe School Senior Awards Ceremony.
Hundreds of pupils in years 10 and 11 and the sixth form were recognised for their efforts and achievements in and out of the classroom at the presentation night.
They received prizes for their educational and sporting successes as well as for service to the school, arts and drama.
Student Ed Mills was among those singled out when he scooped the Lyme Regis News Award for Creative and Media Excellence.
Dr Steward said: “We have two award ceremonies each year.
“Both are fantastic opportunities to celebrate the achievements of our students. We also had a whole school assembly the next morning.
“Those students who were not there got a chance to hear the music and celebrate the success of the school together.”
Dr Steward said it had been a very good year with the school also gaining Teaching School Status allowing it to lead the training and professional development of staff.
He sadi: “It has been a pretty good year. We had excellent exam results, our Ofsted inspection was outstanding and we have just been given Teaching School status.
“It is extremely positive.
“Only 200 schools in the country have the Teaching School status so it makes Woodroffe nationally important.”
Students, including the school jazz band, played at the ceremony and chairman of governors Peter Fortnam was among those to present the prizes.
