Lyme Regis’s newly appointed town crier will be making his first official appearance on Sunday when the resort’s lifeboat volunteers say a special thank you to residents.
Alan Vian will be making his first proclamations outside the Rock Point public house as the RNLI crew parade the lifeboat, Pride of Dorset, through the town. It will be a farewell journey for the lifeboat, but also a thank you to the people of Lyme Regis and the surrounding area who raised the money to provide the vessel nearly 15 years ago.
Pride of Dorset is being replaced on March 3 by a new, larger lifeboat. The lifeboat leaves the boathouse at The Cobb at noon on Sunday and will be pulled by its tractor up Cobb Road and then down to the bottom of Broad Street before making the return journey.
Once back at the lifeboat station the mayor Sally Holman will give an address accompanied by fellow town councillors.
