IT wasn’t that the children of St Michael’s Primary School were wearing their slippers because they were ready for bed last week.
They were being sponsored to raise money for the town’s RNLI SOS campaign to raise money for new lifejackets for the crew.
This year in the south west all 35 lifeboat stations have been given a target to raise funds for their own new equipment.
In Lyme Regis the target is £3,500 to buy lifejackets costing £350 each.
Now that target is £115 nearer thanks to pupils’ efforts.
Head Annabelle Gose said: “It was very successful. They had to wear slippers and brought spare money to make an SOS of coins.
“We did have a little safety talk from some of the crew members getting them ready for the summer.
“Some of the younger pupils will go down for a site visit to the RNLI station before Easter and they are excited about seeing the new boat when it comes.
“We thank the crew for coming. It is important and timely reminder of sea safety.”
