THE popular Silver Screen film showings at Lyme Regis cinema start today after they were successfully relaunched in the autumn.
The Thursday afternoon screenings were dropped from the Regent Cinema early last year because of lack of support, but they returned in September by popular demand.
Cinema manager David Johnson said Silver Screen has proved more popular than ever and the new spring season of films starts today (Thursday).
The cinema is owned by Scott Cinemas, which runs Silver Screen at its venues across Dorset and Devon on weekday mornings.
Mr Johnson said: “Since being asked to take over programming across all the Scott Cinemas sites, it was decided that we would give Silver Screen another go in Lyme.
“The cinema is at the heart of the entertainment scene in Lyme and a key part of the philosophy of Scott Cinemas is to maintain the traditional cinema in rural or seaside locations.
“We relaunched it, and it was local people as much as anything that made it a success this time. There has been a lot of word of mouth and we have had great support from the U3A in Lyme.
“It has become a really nice club with a nice, family atmosphere and instead of getting audiences in the teens a year or so ago, we are getting more than 100 in for some screenings. Thank you to everyone involved.”
Screenings are every Thursday at 10.30am when all the best films from the last six months are shown. There is no membership fee and the entry includes refreshments.
The season runs until April 22 and the autumn season is expected to begin at the end of September.
