Swimmers raised thousands of pounds by taking the plunge.

Lyme Regis Rotary Club has revealed that its New Years Day swim raised £3,400.

Swimmers attended the event in fancy dress, with costumes including a lampshade and Donald Trump.

The money raised has gone to ShelterBox World, which is run by Rotary and provides emergency shelter or tools to families who have lost their homes due to disasters around the world.

The money collected in sponsorship and beach collection on the day was delivered by organiser Rotarian Jim Moseley.

The headquarters, where the charity has been based for 18 months, is where all the admin, accounting, fundraising and purchasing staff all work.

A new visitor centre has opened at the headquarters for all to visit.

The visitor centre, open from 10am until 4pm, is stocked with static displays of both the winter and summer tents, along with a special children's corner.

Visitors also have the opportunity to fill a Shelterbox.

Boxes are filled and distributed at a main depot near Helston, where one fulltime person runs the operation, with boxes filled by volunteers.

Lyme Lunge organiser and Lyme Rotarian, Jim Moseley, said: "This was the 10th Lyme Lunge organised by the Rotary Club of Lyme Regis and probably the best one yet.

"The weather and sea state were kind to use for once, the number of Lungers was nearly 600, and the beach collection and sponsorship of the event made an excellent total of £3400, now given to ShelterBox."

ShelterBox media relations officer, Mark Nicholson, said: "We are so grateful to the Rotary Club of Lyme Regis and everyone who braved the cold water for this fundraising event.

"Appropriate really, as much of our work is about protecting families from the elements.

"Every pound raised will help us take essential items to people who have lose everything in disaster or conflict.

"It was good to welcome Rotarian Jim Moseley to our visitor centre in Truro for the cheque presentation. A huge thank you to everyone involved."
