April 9, 1993:

SLIMMING: Super slimmer Tracey Smith is laughing all the way to the dress shop after shedding pounds.

Hairdresser Tracey, who runs her own Bridport salon, Stlers, lost three stone 12 pounds in just 20 weeks.

She is now eligible for the national finals of Slimming World Club's Greatest Loser competition in Birmingham later this year and a top prize of £1000.

She was presented the local heat winner's award by Bridport GP Dr Janice Longley.

EGG-CELLENT: Students from Bridport's Colfox School scooped the prizes in a "great egg race" competition at Bournemouth University.

Contestants used spaghetti, paper and glue as they vied to build the tallest possible structure capable of supporting an egg.

BLOOMING: Although entries were slightly down on last year, a superb display of daffodils was on view at Loders and Uploders spring show.

There were 91 entries in the flower and produce classes in the village hall.

50 YEARS AGO:

April, 5, 1968:

FILM: Closing its third season on a strong note, Bridport and District Film Society has reason to be confident of its future, as forecast in the Bridport news.

The closing session and A.G.M. of the 1967/68 season at Colfox School Hall cleared Society business before showing the graphic and moving film "The Music Room" from the hand of Satyajit Ray: the payment of life's dream in a final night of music and social change.

Members heard good reports from the finance and membership secretaries.

WEDDING: The three-tier cake at a recent Bridport wedding reception was made by the bride's father and iced by the brother of the chief bridesmaid.

MUSIC: In their tour of Dorset, Choral Scholars of King's College, Cambridge, gave a concert for the Bridport and West Dorset Music Club in aid of the piano fund at the Colfox School Hall on Thursday in last week.
