FUN loving swimmers are preparing for some festive fundraising as they look to take the plunge to raise money for good causes.

The annual Charmouth Christmas Day swim will raise some much-needed funds for the RNLI, while the West Bay Wallow, organised by Bridport Round Table, will be held on Boxing Day.

Organisers of the Charmouth event are hoping to once again see swimmers in weird and wonderful costumes taking the plunge. This year's event, which is being sponsored by the Royal Oak, will start at 11am.

The swim is a key event in the RNLI calender and regularly raises about £1,000 for the charity.

At West Bay, thousands are expected to cheer on swimmers on Boxing Day. More than 100 competitors usually take part in the chilly event - but it is weather dependant.

Entrants can raise money for any cause they wish, while prizes will be handed out for the best fancy dress costume in a variety of categories.

Entrants must sign in from 10.30am with the swim due to start at 12pm. Bridport Round Table will be collecting donations towards local charities on the day.

Organiser Simon Miles, of Bridport Round Table, said: "We would invite everyone to come and join in and make a spectacle of themselves. It's great fun and everything we raise on the day goes back into the Bridport community. All the money raised goes back to good causes.

"We always get lots of spectators and swimmers and last year was a record year. We're hoping to top that this year."

The West Bay Wallow is subject to change should weather conditions be poor on the day.

Organisers will check these conditions at 9.30am on the the day and make a decision. Should the event be cancelled, a notification will be posted on Bridport Round Table’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
