A MAN who was "so loved" by friends and family has been named by police as a pedestrian killed in a collision with a car on the Dorset-Devon border.

As reported in last week's Bridport and Lyme Regis News, a 28-year-old man died after being hit by a vehicle on the A3052 at Ware Cross on Sunday, May 21.

Police have named the victim as Travis Christopher from Rousdon, near Lyme Regis.

In a statement released to Devon and Cornwall Police, his family have paid tribute to him.

The statement said: "The parents, brothers, family and friends of Travis are devastated at the tragedy of losing Travis so suddenly.

“Travis was so loved and will be terribly missed by all who knew him.

“Travis was 28 years old and was a skilled plasterer and had spent much of the last few years working in London but regularly returned to the family home in Rousden.

“The family would respectfully ask that people allow them to grieve privately at this harrowing time.”

Emergency services were called at 2.30am after Travis, who was a pedestrian, was in a collision with a green BMW 323 on the A3052 near Ware Cross.

The BMW driver, a 42-year-old man from Axminster, was not injured but was left very shaken by the incident.

Police units from both Devon and Cornwall and Dorset attended the incident. The road was closed for nine hours while a specialist forensic investigation of the scene was carried out.

Clappentail Lane was closed both ways for several hours whilst emergency services dealt with the incident. The road reopened early on Sunday afternoon.

Motorists were asked to seek alternative routes, and there were reports of delays in the area.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Team are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them.

Police are particularly keen to trace the driver of a small van which was believed to have been in the area at the time of the collision.

Anyone who can assist is asked to contact police via 101@dc,police.uk or by telephone on 101, quoting log number 0153 of 21/05/17.
