FAMILIES are being urged to put on their running shoes and raise funding for a west Dorset school.

The fell run and walk include a climb up Golden Cap, while the run is a challenging course both for competitive runners who fancy having a go at beating the course record and those runners who prefer to take it a bit slower and see a bit of the stunning scenery on the way round.

The event will take place on Saturday, July 1.

Charmouth Challenge is being billed as a great family day out.

The Glennie family took part last year.

Rachel Glennie said: “We’re one of many in this hugely popular family focused event that helps Charmouth and the school in so many ways, raising finance, boosting community spirit and putting our little slice of west Dorset loveliness firmly on the runner’s map.

"A fell run, after all, is not to be sneezed at.”

She added: “The wider fell running family, massed mostly in the north, have embraced their southern cousin and we get runners participating from far and wide, enjoying the community’s kind heartedness, its beautiful coastal location and all the delicious post run cakes in the school’s lovely grounds. So, if you want to witness a spirited community gathering why not come along?”

All proceeds from this event will go towards Charmouth Primary School. This year’s event is very well supported by local companies including Black Cow Vodka, Lyme Bay Holidays, Clipper Tea, Newlands of Charmouth, Thomas Westcott solicitors, Stags estate agents in Bridport and Crediton Milling company.

Those interested in taking part are urged to get entries in early to avoid the £2 on the day extra cost. Discounts will be available for group entries of three for all events.
