A MUSIC charity is celebrating after marking 10 years of helping youngsters become more creative.

Since 2007, B Sharp, a Lyme Regis-based youth music charity has been providing environments where children and young people can explore and develop their music skills.

The charity aims to increase young people's confidence and help them be valued for contributions both as individuals and to wider society.

B Sharp is now focusing on continuing its success into the future.

Fran Williams, B Sharp CEO said: "Our leadership training and professional development helps ensure that all young people are welcomed and supported to progress musically and socially within our programmes and work with partners to offer that training and opportunity across the region.

"We are delighted to have reached this key milestone of 10 years with B Sharp and we are looking forward to continuing to build a sound future for our young people for the next decade and beyond."

The Hub Jams and Boombox projects are regularly delivered by the charity in Lyme Regis, while B Sharp also organises Bridport Jams.

Based at The Hub in Lyme Regis, Hub Jams offers music sessions for those aged from 11 to 18 years old. B Sharp’s team of music leaders work with young people to explore different styles of music making. These sessions, held every Tuesday evening from 6.15pm to 8.30pm during term time, lead to performances throughout the year.

For the younger music enthusiasts based in and around Lyme Regis, B Sharp also offer Boombox Music for children in school years 4, 5, 6 and 7. Also based at The Hub, children of different musical interests and abilities are invited come together on Thursdays from 4pm until 5.15pm to explore music making and make new friends.

Bridport Jams is a project based at Bridport Youth Centre on Gundry Lane for young people aged 11 to 19 years old from west Dorset, led by music leader Matt Hartnell and support worker Sara Buchanan. Bridport Jams started in April last year and it currently has eight core members.

Ms Buchanan said: "We always welcome new young people to come along and join in the fun.

"We have a wide variety of instruments which are available to use at our session every Monday evening, and it's a pleasure watching our members develop skills and increase confidence in what they do. Whether it be drums, keyboard, bass guitar, vocals or wind and string instruments, there's a space for everyone."

She added: "We have plans for a fundraising gig in Spring 2017 and would love to see more young people aged 11 to 19 come forward. We know that music is an incredibly important part of life.”

Bridport Jams is held on every Monday evening during term time, 6.30-8pm at Bridport Youth Centre.
