A COUNCILLOR is set to halt his objection to reopening a controversial footpath in Lyme Regis.
Lyme Regis Town Council is hoping for the Teneriffe Path to reopen as a public right of way between Broad Street and Marine Parade.
Cllr Jeff Scowen, who lives on Teneriffe Path had previously supported the footpath remaining closed to the public.
Cllr Scowen said he now feels opening the route would "be of benefit to the community".
He said: "I am in the process of formerly withdrawing my objection to the opening of Teneriffe Path.
"I now feel that it's opening would be of benefit to the community.
"As some will know I am in the unique position of both being a town councillor and a resident living by the path."
A public inquiry will be held on Wednesday, February 22 at Woodmead Halls to determine whether the path will be reopened.
