THE mud girls have moved in and want to share their passion.

Kate Edwards and Charlotte Eve of Edwards & Eve Cob Building have just arrived in Uplyme.

They are no strangers to publicity having featured on many a TV programme, magazine and newspaper, including George Clarke's Shed of the Year this year.

The women have become well known for building their own cob house for £10,000 and teaching mud building to thousands of people around the world.

They were previously based on the Norfolk Broads but they are originally west county girls and they have come back to the home of cob and to be nearer their families.

Their cob house building courses and pizza oven building workshops have been featured on national television many times and they also specialize in working with schools, helping children to build full scale Anglo Saxon Longhouses, Iceni Roundhouses, and smaller projects like pizza ovens.

Charlotte Eve said: "Our most rewarding work is with young people in schools. We empower the children to build permanent earth buildings for their school grounds. It’s a great way to bring history to life. And who knows, when they are older they may go on to build their own affordable and sustainable cob homes too.”

Charlotte’s partner Kate Edwards has taught thousands of people around the world how to build with the earth.

She said: "We are so excited to have moved back to the west country. I can’t wait to start teaching our workshops here."

Kate originally studied sculpture at Camberwell College of Arts and later ran her own interior design and property renovation company in London. She is also a qualified art psychotherapist.

But in 2005 she attended a cob building course in Ireland and it was love at first feel.

She says she'd found something to combine her art with something functional and in line with her passionate commitment to environmental issues.

She founded Edwards Eco Building in 2005 and began building cob garden studios and straw bale buildings for clients in the UK.

She wanted to pass on her passion and began teaching cobb building courses.

In 2007 Charlotte joined forces with Kate and together they bought White Cottage in Norfolk – a 400 year old thatched mud house. Together Kate and Charlotte also doubled the size of White Cottage - the first of it’s kind to their knowledge to go through building regulations in the UK.

Charlotte is a qualified teacher and her main role at Edwards and Eve Cob Building is organising and running the school workshops.
