A YOUTH music charity drummed up almost £3,000 at its annual fundraiser.

B Sharp raised the roof, as well as much-needed funds, at the party on Saturday (26) at the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis.

The Lyme-based charity tallied up more than £1,500 on the night, while £980 was generated through ticket sales, donations, food and refreshments, while an additional £500 was raised through a silent auction.

The annual event allows young people, families, friends and supporters of the charity to come together and celebrate the past year of music-making, as well as raising money to help B Sharp continue its work across the region.

Partygoers were treated to a range of live music, performed by young people from B Sharp's Bridport Jams, Lyme Regis-based Hub James and Boombox.

Mr Jèan, the popular four piece band from Lyme Regis also took to the stage, including guest musician Ian Kindred, performing a funky set to round off the night of music with their energetic, groove based hits.

Matt Hartnell, B Sharp music leader, said: “This year's party was the best display of B Sharp’s variety of projects to date – bringing together young people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds for a night of powerfully diverse music.

"It was a pleasure to see so many young people appreciating their peers' efforts and showing the possibilities of creative collaborations in rural areas. A brilliantly positive evening enjoyed by all.”

Harvey Causley, assistant music leader, also performed one of his own compositions on the night called My Journey.

He said: "The party was great fun. Seeing the hard work that all the musicians had put in, as well as hearing the variety of music played throughout the evening was inspiring.

"Many new people have joined B Sharp over the past year and I believe that the new generation of B Sharp musicians has arrived.”

The B Sharp party is the latest in a string of music events put on by the charity this year, including the recent ONE concert at Lighthouse, Poole, the Busking Festival and Big Mix in Lyme Regis.

Fran Williams, B Sharp CEO, said the charity is hoping to build a "more self-sufficient approach" while the "current economic climate is tough".

She added: "We are delighted to have been supported by so many local people over the past decade. We are passionate about continuing our efforts to support young people in the area, so every little bit of support from the local community really does help our cause.

"All proceeds raised from this event will go towards continuing to build a sound future for our young people.”
