THE Lyme Regis-based music charity B Sharp is premiering its largest concert of original music ONE – a shared humanity - at Poole Lighthouse.

The concert on November 11 is part of its 2016 programme and is a collection of vocal work composed by John K Miles in creative workshops organised by B Sharp in schools and the community, across Dorset and Devon along the Jurassic Coast.

Featuring new and existing choirs from secondary and primary schools from the region collectively showcasing 300 young singers, this collection, commissioned by B Sharp and Soundstorm, the Bournemouth and Poole Music Education Hub, has woven together newly written material alongside re-worked old favourites.

The young singers have been working alongside world class musicians and singers supported by B Sharp mentors.

Composer John K Miles said:”It has been fantastic to work with B Sharp again, composing ONE - a shared humanity, in response to creative workshops in Dorset schools. The resulting work seeks to reflect the human condition, whilst providing a high profile platform for young singers to ‘own’ and extend their performance skills alongside top professional musicians. I can’t wait to hear the piece performed.”

John has composed numerous scores for film and television, released two solo CDs and written for theatre, jazz groups, world music ensembles, and the classical concert hall.

He is also known locally for On Golden Cap, a new commission he composed for B Sharp as part of Coastal Voices for the opening of the Olympic Sailing in 2012.

Fran Williams, CEO said B Sharp is excited to be delivering another ambitious collaborative singing project, with so many enthusiastic schools across the region.

She said: “We have taken thousands of young people on a singing journey with us over the years, from Lighthouse Poole and Weymouth Beach in 2012 for the Olympics as part of Coastal Voices, to Beer Caves and Exeter Cathedral, Candles on The Cobb in Lyme Regis, and now back to Lighthouse.

“We are looking forward to all the magic moments that projects like these make happen for the young people who take part.

All proceeds will go towards the cost of the production, and to further the work at B Sharp. Public coaches will be available from select Lyme Regis and Bridport schools.
