POLICE are warning traders not to leave tools in vans after a spate of thefts overnight.
Officers are investigating three reported incidents in the Lyme Regis and Uplyme area – which all took place overnight on Thursday.
Power tools were taken from a van parked in Church Street, Lyme Regis, while DeWalt power tools were stolen from a van parked along Queens Walk.
In Uplyme, Makita power tools including drills were also stolen from a parked van.
A spokesman for Bridport, Beaminster and Lyme Regis Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Our advice is to always remove valuable items from vans overnight where possible.
“If not, install a secure lockable cage within the vehicle and make sure the vehicle is alarmed either with the manufacturer’s vehicle alarm or by installing a suitable alarm system that provides a good audible deterrent and is able to alert you to the intruders.
“Never confront thieves and always call 999 if a crime is in progress.”
Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 101.
