VOTERS could go to the polls in Lyme Regis after more than 10 people requested an election to fill a vacant seat.

Lyme Regis Town Council will give notice of a by-election after Liz Robinson stepped down from her seat on the council last month. Ms Robinson resigned due to continued work commitments in London.

She said: “If I am too busy to make some of the meetings because of my work commitments, I think it is only fair to step aside and let someone else join the council."

A notice of election will be issued later this month. If more than one candidate comes forward, an election will be held on Thursday, June 2.

A spokeswoman for Lyme Regis Town Council, said: “WDDC has informed us that at least 10 electors have requested an election to fill the councillor vacancy on Lyme Regis Town Council.

“Public notice of an election will be issued on April 25 and nominations for the vacancy will be accepted from this date, with a closing date of May 5. If the election is contested, a poll will be held on June 2.”
