MONEY will be raised for charity in Lyme Regis when brave swimmers start 2016 with a chilly dip in the sea.

The annual Lyme Lunge will take place on New Year's Day, with thousands of spectators once again expected to cheer on the swimmers.

The event, which will take place for the eighth year, is organised by the Rotary Club of Lyme Regis.

A Rotary spokesperson said: "As usual we expect hundreds of crazy swimmers take to the sea to welcome in the New Year., watched by thousands of cheering spectators.

"Children’s Hospice South West will be the main beneficiary from our fund raising effort. Join in, either as an intrepid Lunger or a joyous spectator and make this yet another memorable event."

The event will take place at 1pm on the Sandy Beach in Lyme Regis, after the duck race.

Sponsor forms are available online at lymeregisrotary.org or by contact the organiser Jim Moseley on mose@btinternet.com or 01297 443170.

Mayor of Lyme Regis, Cllr Owen Lovell,  will start the annual popular duck race at 12pm in Lyme Regis on New Year's Day.

Ducks will cost £1 and will be available from 11.15am at the start. There are cash prizes for the winners and all proceeds will be used for next year's Christmas lights in Lyme.
