A CHARITY has launched a digital scrapbook at River Cottage to help struggling families get a break.

The Family Holiday Association has set up a celebrity-filled seaside memories interactive scrapbook to make its 40th anniversary.

The scrapbook is full of inspiring memories and contributions from high profile celebrities – from Jade Jagger and Alesha Dixon, through to River Cottage head chef Gelf Alderson and admired authors Sante Montefiore and Chloe Inkpen.

Each memory reinforces the value of a family break and is further complemented by insight into real-life stories from families who have been supported by the charity to have a break when they would not otherwise have been able to do so.

The River Cottage chef served up donuts for the scrapbook, which remind him of family holidays at the coast.

Gelf Alderson said: “It was a great experience being involved with the Family Holiday Association’s Seaside Memories campaign.

“I had a great time cooking up my fondest seaside memory – donuts. They take me right back to quality family time on family holidays on the beach, which all families should experience, just good fun.”

The scrapbook has been launched following a report published by the charity last month, which found that almost half of Brits say their happiest memory is that of a family holiday, while 55 percent agree that these holidays have given them happy memories that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Some of our favourite seaside memories include eating ice cream, collecting shells and building a sandcastle with siblings.

John McDonald, director of the Family Holiday Association, said: “For many of the families we support, the short seaside breaks we provide are the first time they’ve ever been able to go away together – even the most simple of day trips can be a real lifeline.

“This research is the cast iron evidence we have long known to be true and demonstrates the incredible, positive impacts on the family and wider society that a break away from the daily grind can bring.”
