The Hub youth club has been given £10,000 in error by the town council during its budget setting process.

The financial mistake was revealed by town clerk John Wright at last week’s strategy and policy committee meeting – as councillors began to consider the budget strategy for the 2015-2016 financial year.

The town council had a three-year service level agreement at The Hub to give the facility £10,000 a year.

This was due to expire in 2013.

However, a fourth payment of £10,000 was rewarded after being included in the current financial year’s budget.

Mr Wright added that if the grant had been discussed last year after it expired, councillors would have been likely to approve a further £10,000 in payment.

The discussion by councillors will be taken into account before presenting the 2015-2016 budget to members on December 10.
