LYME Regis looks set for another bumper year of events and festivals.

The calendar of events and festivals for 2014 was discussed last night, February 26, by Lyme Regis Town Council and will see all of the old favourites return to the town.

Keen fossil hunters will descend on the town for the Fossil and Food Festival which will take place over the May Day bank holiday weekend.

The incredibly popular RNLI lifeboat week will be held on the week commencing July 19.

Carys Lowe, who is the main organiser of the RNLI Lifeboat week, said: “The plans for the week are shaping up nicely. We won’t know about the Red Arrows until early April, but the majority of the plans are in the draft process now.

“We are all looking forward to it. It is going to be the usual week of fantastic events and great fun and we are hoping we get some fantastic weather as well after the horrible winter we have had.

“We try to include families as much as possible so we are trying to do as many water-based events as we can and crossing our fingers the weather will be on our side.”

A week jam-packed with activities is being planned for the Regatta and Carnival week, which begins on August 2 and finish with the parade on Saturday, August 8.

The Folk Festival, which made its debut in 2013 and saw the town filled with folk music playing bands, will return to the town on the weekend of August 30 until September 1.

The record-breaking Guitars on the Beach will once again team up with the celebrity-chef packed Food Festival to bring a close to the summer season on September 6 and 7, with organisers announcing more music and more food stalls during the event.

Geoff Baker, one of the organisers of the Guitars on the Beach, said: “The plans for this year are coming along well, with the organising committee meeting this Sunday.

“More and more people are joining up for this year’s event, and we have noticed more children are signing up for it as well. It is bound to be another big boost for the town.”

ArtsFest will return to the town for an eight-day dedication to all things arty from September 20 until the 28, with the two winter events, Bonfire Night and the Great Christmas Pudding Race, taking place on November 1 and December 6 respectively.
