THE Lyme Lunge and the Duck Race look set to defy the weather forecasts and go ahead tomorrow.

There were fears the bad weather would lead to the cancellation of the popular events, but the organisers said they fully expect the events to go ahead, no matter the weather.

The Duck Race will kick off the town’s New Year traditions with the ducks taking to the water at midday. They will set off at the point of the river by the Higher Mill Flats on Windsor Terrace, with 600 plastic ducks predicted to take part.

The concern the organisers have is if the water level in the river is too high they may have to cancel the event, but they will inform people by 10am tomorrow morning.

At 1pm, hundreds of people are expected to shake off their New Year hangovers by running into the sea for this year’s Lyme Lunge event.

Members of the rotary club have confirmed that the event will go on whatever the weather, but if the wind is as strong as forecasted they will not be putting up the marquee.

There are also doubts whether the RNLI boat and the boat from the sailing club will be able to leave the harbour and patrol the area for safety because of the predicted high winds, so the safety will be provided by the RNLI volunteers who will be in the water in their wading suits to ensure everyone’s safety.
