Hardy walkers are taking steps to ensure that the Lyme Regis Walking Festival continues, despite the inclement weather.

The event, led by Lyme Traders Organisation (LTO) runs until Saturday and aims to promote the area as a destination for walkers.

Torrential rain meant that last Sunday’s programme was washed out, but staff at the tourist information centre have been busy this week dealing with inquries from walkers determined not to be put off.

Tony Colston, of the LTO, said the festival had a good response last Saturday.

“There were quite a few people out and about in the town,” he said.

“Sunday was a washout, but this week we are hoping to see plenty of walkers out and about.

“The programme is going ahead as planned and we suggest people come prepared for all weathers.

An extra event is planned for Friday when walkers should meet at Holmbush at 10am for a walk with an RSPB expert, looking at bird life on the Undercliff.

The full programme is available from the TIC, participating shops and on the Facebook page.
