LYME Regis Baptist Church has urged town councillors to allow a Christian group to continue its work with children on the beach.

United Beach Missions (UBM) comes to Lyme every summer and runs a programme of games, quizzes, singing, competitions and Bible stories.

The town council is now considering applications for beach seafront and garden concessions for the 2013 season.

Baptist church secretary Eric Holdstock and church member Colin Barker urged members of the town management committee last week to continue the UBM concession.

Mr Holdstock said the team has been on the beach for many years previously and carried out all the requests made by the town council last year.

He added: “Would you also bear in mind that they do not make a charge for their services and they are not a profiting organisation.”

Councillors considered several tenders to provide children’s games and activities and have recommended to full council that UBM wins the bid.

Councillors considered tenders for other concessions and made recommendations for the following: trampolines, stone balancing, deckchairs, and a Punch and Judy show.
