Lyme Regis Christmas Pudding race on the agenda

Lyme Regis second homeowners are being invited to enter teams for the Great Christmas Pudding Race.

Ten teams from the local community have already entered the festive-themed obstacle race, to be held on Saturday, December 15, on the seafront.

Teams of six people will carry a Christmas pudding through obstacles, foam baths and over bouncy castles in aid of Lyme Regis Cancer Research UK.

Those already lining up are: The Pride of Lyme, The Cliff Pauley Family, By The Bay, The Lyme Bohos, Lyme Regis Football Club, Lyme Regis Town Council, Lyme Tourist Information Centre, and Woodroffe School.

Now locals want to get others involved as well and are urging those with second homes in the town to join in the festive fun.

The official invitation to second-homers comes from Geoff Baker, who said: “In the sentiments of the season, although we locals make jokes about incomers we’re all one community at heart and so the Mongers, and probably all of the local teams, want to see some of the Christmas cousins join in.”

The Lyme pudding race – a local version of the world-famous Covent Garden Great Pudding Race which has run for 32 years – will be opened at lunchtime by Lyme’s ‘Queen and Prince Philip’, the stars of this summer’s Lyme Lympics, who will be welcomed by a Scots piper accompanied by reindeer.

There will be a trophy for the winning team.
