Station plan is defended
11:00am Thursday 25th October 2012 in Lyme Regis
LYME councillor Lorna Jenkin has defended plans for a new weather station at the harbour.
Murray Saunders, from Boylos surf shop, suggested it could be installed on the harbourmaster’s office with a link to a computer in the shelters, providing real-time weather data for the tourism website, with the costs met by advertisers.
Coun Daryl Turner has questioned the need for it.
He said: “We’ve got a MET office 30 minutes down the road, a harbourmaster that is more up to speed than anyone else I know, so I can’t understand why we need another one.”
Coun Jenkin, chairman of the tourism and economic development committee said: “Local fishermen, surfers, handgliders, small aircraft would like to get information on a minute-by-minute basis.”
