IVAN Andrews from Bridport wrote to us about the article on Private Sanders.

Mr Andrews, who is a member of the Salisbury Diocesan Guild of Ringers, said: “I was most interested in the article on Private Alexander William Sanders, being a follow-up to the initial story published in November 2012, where it was stated that he was a bellringer at Shipton Gorge and joined in the ringing on the last Sunday he was in England before joining the Expeditionary Force in France.

“I did some research as his name was not recorded in the records of West Dorset Ringers, and this omission has been rectified.

“His granddaughter, Barbara Montgomery, I trust, will be pleased to learn that I have forwarded Will's name and details to London and I can confirm that he has now been added ‘with honour’ to the Central Council’s Memorial Book of Church Bell-ringers Who Fell in The Great War.”

He added: “It is interesting to note that further ‘missing’ ringers who lost their lives in World War I have come to light as a result of your articles.”
