Lyme Regis: Euro MP Graham Watson visits boat building academy

EURO MP Graham Watson visited Lyme Regis Boat Building Academy to discuss apprenticeships and funding.

The academy contacted the South West MEP about issues involving sponsorship for international students.

He said: “Lyme Regis Boat Building Academy is an institution Dorset and the UK should be proud of.

“The academy delivers world class teaching in a skilled discipline and sells the UK as a top destination for education in this field.

“However, they have been caught short by rules designed to restrict so called bogus colleges, which the boat building academy is clearly not.”

He added: “This catch 22 needs to be resolved and I will be writing to the Immigration Minister to see if any form of exception can be made to organisations such as this who genuinely attempt to offer high level training, which creates jobs and brings in revenue to the local economy. We need to resolve barriers to business and growth where we can.”
