Bridport: Dental nurse Roisin Greenup off to Tanzania to pass on her skills

MWANZA BOUND: Dental nurse Roisin has set herself a target of raising £1,000 for her mission
DENTAL nurse Roisin Greenup is heading off to Tanzania to help rural communities and to pass on her skills.
Roisin, 21, who has been with ADP Dental in Bridport for 18 months, is going to Mwanza in September to work for the charity Bridge2Aid and the more money she raises before she goes the more people she can help while she’s there.
She said: “The charity’s aim is to provide emergency dental treatment in rural areas for people who don’t have access to any kind of treatment and to train up local health professionals so they can provide that treatment in the long term and we can leave that legacy for them.
“The charity’s focus is sustainability rather than just going in saying we are from England and we can help.”
Roisin, who lives in Weymouth and went to Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester, says she fell into her job but loves it.
She said: “It is fantastic and I love it over here, it is an amazingly rewarding job but to do something over in a place like Tanzania where there really are just so many people who have no access to anything is amazing.
“My target is £1,000 and that will fund part of my flight and the rest goes to help so the more I can raise the more I can do and the more people I can help.”
She is planning to get involved in a few sporting challenges, not least a Demon Run in the Brecon Beacons.
She said: “It is like an obstacle course, you run in mountains, through mud – it sounds horrendous really and not something I am looking forward to.
“But I’ll be doing a few other things like putting on a couple of dinners and dances.”
