West Dorset District Council has announced that three car parks in West Bay are to resurfaced.

The Bridport Arms car park, Station Yard car park and the overspill area of the West Bay Road car park have been identified as being in poor condition.

The council's engineers and car parks team are working with a contractor to resurface these areas.

Currently, there is a lack of clearly defined parking spaces, and the works will address this, ultimately providing more parking spaces.

The works are due to start on Monday, April 16 and are expected to last around 12 weeks.

This will mean that the car parks are revitalised in time for the school summer holidays.

Works on the car parks will be phased, meaning that only one car park will be fully shut at any time.

The council has announced that it expects only minor disruption during the works, and they will clearly identify shut car parks.

In the car parks, a new heavy duty, eco-friendly paving system will be laid.

This has been used before at the Chesil Beach car park with the council receiving positive feedback from users.

The material is made in the UK and designed to expand and contract in hot and cold weather conditions.

The anti-slip surface with gravel infill provides better surface water drainage, and made from 100 per cent recycled plastic.

Speaking of the work, Councillor John Russell, said: "We are committed to enhancing both the resident and visitor experience in West Bay.

"Our investment in to the car park is just one of the many projects that are ongoing.

"We see this new, environmentally friendly surface and re-marking of car parking spaces as a long-term solution to current issues."

The resurfacing work means that the Sunday car boot sale at West Bay road will not go ahead while it takes place.
