MUSIC lovers will come together to help vulnerable children and young people.

Mark your calendars for Good Friday, when local musicians will come together in Lyme Regis as part of a flagship fundraising initiative in support of music-making projects for children and young people in challenging circumstances.

Youth Music’s Give a Gig will head to The Hub thanks to organiser Jon Pogson, musician and leader of Lyme-based music charity, B Sharp.

Mr Pogson said: “Musicians and promoters have come together for this night with The Hub to host one of the 100 gigs happening across the country in support of this fantastic national charity. Youth Music has invested in our local area for more than 10 years through a range of music projects led by B Sharp, our very own music charity, helping them to work with young people and changing lives through music. I am looking forward to hosting what promises to be a music packed night featuring a select number of talented guest performers .”

Headlining Give a Gig will be much-loved pop, disco and dance band Mr Jèan, who specialise in music from the 70s to the modern day.

A spokesman for the band said "We are thrilled to be performing as part of Give a Gig. We haven’t played in Lyme Regis for a while, so it will be great to be back with what is sure to be a great night and with audiences who we know like to party.”

Mr Jèan are to be supported by Launchpad – B Sharp’s lively and up-and-coming house band made up of a talented mix of musicians from the area who will perform a selection of original tunes and favourite covers.

The event will run late into the night and will be wrapped up with a DJ set from Dom Kirtley, a B Sharp alumnus coming back from London to help support the event.

“Music is a common language for us all” said Mr Pogson. “It gives us a place for expression and to come together both as musicians and audiences to have a good time. We hosted an event last year and this year we are making it even bigger and better.”

Ian Gillan, of Deep Purple, recently visited B Sharp and has sent his best wished. Mr Gillan said “I’m still in touch with many of my early musical mates, and we all remain grateful to those who helped us then and as a consequence music has gone on to being a friend for life to us all."

Give a Gig will start 7.30pm and tickets are available at Lyme Regis Tourist Information Centre. For more information, call 01297 442138 or visit www.youthmusic.org.uk
