A West Dorset pastel artist has won a prestigious award.
Martin Goold, who is based at Morcombelake, has had work selected for the Pastel Society’s annual exhibition for the last eight years – but this year he has been handed the Henri Roche Award for his efforts.
He was presented with the prize by Rupert Maas from the BBC’S Antiques Roadshow on Monday. The winning work will be on display until March 3 at The Mall Galleries, London. There’s a chance to see his work closer to home at the Spring Exhibition at Artwave West in Morcombelake until April 21. The exhibition is open Wednesday to Saturday (10am and 4pm).
Mr Goold was born in London but the dramatic coastline of Lyme Bay now provides inspiration for much of his work. He trained at Chelsea School of Art, completing the MA Fine Art Painting in 1984. Following a series of group exhibitions at The Warwick Arts Trust in London in the 1980’s he went on to participate in solo and group exhibitions in UK galleries, art centres and public and National Trust venues. In recent years he has exhibited extensively across the West Country and at New Grafton Gallery and Clarion Contemporary Art in London.
