Boxing Day seems a long while ago, but there is plenty to report as the Bay was full to overflowing. I am sure many motorists are grateful for West Dorset District Council ensuring that the West Bay Road car park was fully open, although mighty wet in places.

Our  Deputy Mayor,  Belfast born Councillor Barry Irvine, judged the fancy dress at the Round Table Swim and it is should be no surprise that a 'leprechaun' won. He had no sooner undertaken that task than he was in St. John's Church for the carols, cake and coffee, after the swim. Barry accompanied the carols using his 'cahon' drum with Harry Britton on the guitar. A congregation of over 80 people enjoyed some lusty  singing. The cake was kindly donated by Morrisons supplemented by a little of my 'special' birthday cake and the coffee was industriously made by Steve and Lesley Dove. Churches Together in  Bridport and District, that organises this annual event, said 'this was the best year yet, and is growing in popularity'.

On Sunday evening, 7th January, at 6.00pm there will be an Epiphany Carol Service in St. John's, Everyone is welcome to attend so come and sing some of the Epiphany Carols that are only sung once a year.

The Christmas Tree on the Green has withstood ferocious weather and with one exception when the 'trip switch' was thrown, has stood up well. West Bay Days group would like to thank everyone who made this possible and especially to Rosemary Russell the Chapel Warden at St. John's for ensuring the electricity supply was provided for the full period.

On New Year's Eve people came in droves to watch the wild sea at West Bay. It also brought out some fairly thoughtless people. With the waves constantly breaking heavily over the West Pier there were people encouraging their grandchildren to pose for photographs whilst the sea continued to crash over. The reason was to obtain what they thought would be a good photograph! It could so easily have ended in tragedy.

A Happy New Year to all my readers.
