Lyme Regis lifeboat was called out twice yesterday in a busy Saturday for the volunteer crew.

Luckily, both incidents were false alarms with good intent.

Coastguards were alerted when a man and his dog were reported to be cut off by the tide at Black Ven, to the east of Lyme Regis harbour.

On arrival the lifeboat crew found the man did not need assistance.

While still at sea, a report of a 'sail' in the water off Burton Bradstock turned out to be a floating sack.

A lifeboat spokesman said: “While both these calls turned out to be false alarms, we always consider it be best safe rather than sorry”.

The Lyme Regis lifeboat crew have now answered 21 calls for help this year.
