A lucky dog escaped disaster after she fell over a cliff edge.

Beer and Lyme Regis Coastguard teams were sent to the rescue after Misty the spaniel cross chased a pheasant over the cliff at Goat island in the Rousdon landslip.

Coastguards found Misty’s owners desperately calling and whistling to the dog who could be heard barking below.

A statement from Beer Coastguard and Rescue Team said: “We decided to try and get to the base of the 80-foot cliff by accessing the old coast path and cutting our way in.

“Two of the Lyme team got as far as they could but were unable to get to the base of the cliff but were so close to the barking dog.”

The rescue teams regrouped and decided to put a rope technician over the cliff edge to see if he could spot Misty.

The coastguard said: “The rope technician descended and believe it or not Misty came to him.”

The rescued animal was then package into a special dog bag and pulled up up to safety the cliff top where the seemingly uninjured Misty was reunited with her grateful owners.

The whole rescue took eleven coastguard rescue officers attended and just over four hours.
