THE Friendly Food Club Cookery project which has been running in Bridport since May, has been shortlisted for the Lottery funded People's Projects competition to be broadcast on national TV with a prize of £ 50,000.

The competition entry will highlight the work of the group who took part in cookery workshops at St Mary's Church Hall and Salway Ash village hall and offer the opportunity for the public to vote for the project with £50,000 for similar projects across Dorset up for grabs.

During the project, volunteers from the group worked with Friendly Food Club tutors to promote the project in Bukky Doo Square in Food Festival Week with a 'What's in My Soup' and 'How well do you know your herbs' competitions.

Club organiser Tony Gibbons said: "Friendly Food Club tutors and volunteers also manned the Healthy Burger workshop at the Food Festival and the Pasty Tent at the Symondsbury Fete which raised the extra funding for the celebration workshop and free buffet we are offering on Saturday (Sept 23).

"From 12.30 at St Mary's Church Hall in South Street, volunteers from the project will be showing off their new skills by offering a free buffet highlighting the dishes they learnt to cook during the workshops.

"While the event is free, it will be great if we have an idea how many will come along, so we can make sure we have enough food to go round.

"If you would like to come along for some delicious home cooked food, get in touch soon and have a look at our other projects on Facebook.T
