A RISING young star has won a national competition with her incredible singing talent.

Sixteen-year-old Annabel Davies, who goes to Woodroffe School in Lyme Regis, was crowned overall best singer for the TeenStar competition on Tuesday (1) after performing at the competition finals on Saturday (29).

At the finals she sang her own song and for winning the competition she will be able to produce an album at River Studios, work with a top producer on her songs, produce a video of a single of her choosing and more.

TeenStar claims to be the UK’s largest singing and dancing competition for teens and pre-teens and offers prizes and opportunities for those who excel at performing.

There are three categories for the awards, pre-teens, mid-teens and late-teens, and Annabel, from Churchill near Axminster, also won best singer on Saturday (29) in the mid-teen category.

She auditioned about nine months ago for the competition and then progressed through its various stages

She won the regional final in Bristol and then went on to win the southern area finals in Southampton, with the national finals taking place in The Alban Arena in Hertfordshire.

Annabel was thrilled by her hard-earned double win.

She said: “It’s literally incredible. I have been doing these competitions for years. It’s a really hard won thing after a long time.”

She added: “To finally win it is absolutely amazing.”

Her mum, Dr Sue Davies, who came with Annabel to the finals along with one of Annabel's friends, said: “I am absolutely delighted for her because she has been trying really hard over the years. She’s been performing since primary school and her first big win was at Freshwater Bay campsite in Burton Bradstock when she was ten. She did the talent show and she has had a taste for it since.”

Annabel has entered the TeenStar competition and reached the finals before and she also excelled in the Open Mic UK music competition last year, which she came third in.

Sue said: “But that was not good enough. She wanted to win.”

She has performed in festivals, charity events, shows and school musicals and was a member of the Big Red Youth Theatre until it closed.

Sue thought Annabel performed brilliantly at the show.

She said: “I am really pleased for her. It was a huge audience. It was quite a rowdy bunch if I’m honest, but when Annabel came in the whole audience went silent. It was wonderful.”
