A MUSIC charity will mark 10 years of helping young people be more creative at its birthday party this weekend.

B Sharp, a Lyme Regis-based youth charity, is celebrating its 10th birthday party on Saturday (1) with the 'Big Mix'.

The celebration, which will take place at the Marine Theatre, will feature the RPMs - fresh from playing at last weekend's Glastonbury Festival.

The event kicks off outside the theatre at 3pm with DJs playing from the balcony. The doors will open at 6pm for a short film, music, pictures and presentation showing the past 10 years of the charity's work. The cabaret style evening will include a line up of local young musicians and bands who will be showcasing some of the original music composed at the weekly B Sharp jams.

The new enterprise B Sharp house band, ‘LaunchPad, will play before the headline act, The RPMs.

Fran Williams, B Sharp creative director, said: "We are really proud of what we have achieved together over the last decade, spearheading innovative ways for engagement in education through music, the arts and culture.

"Our on-going projects, events and our training, skills, mentoring and workforce development programme are something we really want to develop into the future. We can see it works and we believe it greatly reduces barriers to learning and engagement."

She added: "Developing young people’s creative capacity and giving them skills, experience and confidence is going to be increasingly important in leading fulfilling lives in the future.

"Over the next 10 years, B Sharp is looking to broaden the scale and scope of what we can offer to young people to give them the best possible start in life.

"We look forward to seeing you on Saturday."

Jacques Verhaeren, B Sharp founder member, said: "B Sharp is more than just music. The party will bring together friends, supporters, partners and participants for some incredible music and performance and is a great opportunity for young people to get industry experience of running an event of this scale.

“Witnessing a young person blossom into a fantastic musician in their own right is one of the things that make B Sharp more than just a job to me. Words can’t really describe how rewarding it is and how much joy B Sharp spreads to everyone that gets involved at any level. The birthday party is also a great opportunity to look to the future."

There will also be a bar, café and Rebel Town Pizza van at the event. Tickets are available from Lyme Regis Tourist Information Centre or by calling 01297 442138.
