THE Friendly Food Club Awards for All Cookery project is organising cookery workshops for people using the town's foodbank.

The club, which is funded by the Big Lottery Awards for All and West Dorset District Council, at got off to a great start with families from Salway Ash making pizzas and decorating Easter eggs with the best designs winning goose eggs as a prizes to make monster omelettes.

The village club will be hosting a cookery workshop at the summer fair.

The Friendly Food Club also offered samples of pies, quiches and cakes at Cupboard Love Food Bank last week where food bank visitors and volunteers were invited to come along to the first cookery workshop at The Church House in South Street on Saturday (13May).

The workshop starts at 10.30am and finishes with lunch made by participants at about 1 pm.

Families will be able to try making their own healthy burgers, spaghetti bolognaise, cheesey meat loaf and chilli con carne with vegetarian options.

Every one will get a free box of ingredients with easy-to-follow recipe cards to try the recipes at home and packs of herbs and spices thanks to Mike and Sue English from Friends of the Earth.

The best efforts will be rewarded by the pick of cooking utensils such as blenders, chefs knives, food processors etc with a major prize of a table top infra red oven given out on completion of all six workshops.

Tony Gibbons from the The Friendly Food Club said: "We are starting a series of six to eight workshops most Saturdays, open to all, mums, dads and kids and especially people who visit the Food Bank.

"There will be different activities for the parents with kids and those without.

"Workshops are for anyone whether you can cook a bit or not and we will make enough for lunch and probably some to take home."
