THERE’LL be a collection for Bridport Food Bank when the Electric Palace opens its doors on Easter Saturday (15 April) for a gig with Ferocious Dog.

The full-on six piece return to the venue and this time, there’ll be collecting points for non-perishable foodstuffs and toiletries for the food bank. The food drop is something the band are doing on every date of their UK tour.

Front man Ken Bonsall said: “It’s all about working together to ease the burden for people. It’s not just those who are homeless, there are families with children who are struggling to make ends meet.

“It all started when we played Rock City, Nottingham. We were the first unsigned band to sell out the venue, which holds 2,000 people.

“My wife and I had lost our son, Lee, to post traumatic stress disorder and that year we couldn’t celebrate Christmas. So we started working with veterans off the streets, setting up soup kitchens. We just asked for people to donate to the food drop from gig to gig.

“We put something on social media and people bent over backwards to help. They knew about and understood Lee’s story. Then we did a clothes and food drop in Warsop where we come from and it all carried on from there. We had an overwhelming response.

“And then when the film, I, Daniel Blake, came out, it hit home even more. I thought we were missing a trick if we didn’t do this on our UK tour. Even if we had just one item donated, it would be one more than there would have been. But, of course, there was far more than just one item. It’s been brilliant, and also really good meeting the people who run the food banks.”

Over the past few weeks, the band have been pushing their food drop message on social media.

There was overwhelming support for Bridport Food Bank when the Palace screened I, Daniel Blake.

“Seeing that film really promoted me to do a food drop on the UK tour,” said Ken.. “People are struggling all over.”

Ferocious Dog will be supported by support act Blackwater County.
