BEAMINSTER School’s recent production of Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” has received rave reviews from those who saw the play.

Set in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692 and based on true life events, this is the first show produced by drama teacher Bryony Smith who joined the school in September.

Rehearsals have been running since the start of the academic year and the production has involved students, staff, parents and governors.

Mrs Smith said: “I am so proud of all of the cast and crew who worked tirelessly and executed a fantastic production.

"I hope that future school productions at Beaminster School will go from strength to strength as the students learn about a range of styles and genres.”

"The mass hysteria and false accusation conjured by the production is as relevant today as it was then. A real triumph and my congratulations go to everyone who was involved.”

Parents said they wanted to congratulate all involved in pulling off 'such a professional adaptation' of the Arthur Miller play.

One said: "The appointment of Mrs Smith has clearly been a brilliant move and a great asset for the drama department and she should be deservedly congratulated and highly praised for her debut achievement at Beaminster School. What luck and what a show!

"The actors all worked particularly well together to produce a tight, disciplined, exciting and poignant performance and should all be given the credit they deserve. The emotion was palpable. Thank you to all involved.”

Another added: “I wanted to congratulate you on such an impressive and professional performance of 'The Crucible.' As well as being proud of my own child's contribution, I felt incredibly proud that Beaminster School had produced such a fantastic show.”

“Can you pass on all our thanks and congratulations to all involved in the performance of The Crucible - it was a great evening.”

It is hoped that next year’s school production will be a musical in collaboration with the music department.
