A COUNCILLOR has resigned from Lyme Regis Town Council.

Anita Williams, who was also on the authority’s planning and town management and highways committees has decided to step down due to work commitments. She is also a former deputy mayor of Lyme Regis.

Ms Williams works full time at the legal department at East Devon District Council.

She said: “My work at EDDC is increasingly busy and it has been difficult to give enough time to the council.

“The increasing number of council meetings has been an issue for me whilst working full time.”

She added: “I have always felt strongly that the town deserves councillors who are able to focus on the role and who are able to work hard to do what is best for the town.

“I am not currently able to do this and I feel that it would be better to allow someone else who is able to dedicate the time to take on the role.”

Ms Williams thanked Lyme Regis residents, councillors and council workers and hasn’t ruled out a return to the authority in the future.

She said: “I have enjoyed my time as a councillor and would like to thank all those who voted for me initially and those councillors, council officers, former councillors and others who have helped and supported me over my time as a councillor.

“I wouldn't rule out a return at some time in the future when I am able to dedicate sufficient time to the position.”

A notice of the vacancy on the town council was given by West Dorset District Council on Monday (6).
