OUT of the ashes of the former Trick Factory on the St Michael's Trading Estate in Bridport has come TTF Park 2.

That's the name of the new Facebook group set up to help discuss the future of the BMX, skateboard and scooter facilities in Bridport.

Campaigners met at the end of last year and agreed to form a steering group, consisting of users, parents and council representatives to explore any and all options.

The steering group has to date had two meetings and has come up with an outline proposal, agreed by members including Chris Scadding, Clive Stafford-Smith, Daryl Chambers, Arthur Woodgate, Joe Hewetson, Cllrs Sarah Horniman and Maggie Ray.

That proposal is now being posted on TTF Park 2 Facebook group for public consultation to receive reactions, criticism and advice.

Mr Scadding said: "The proposal is to explore creating an indoor-outdoor facility where the town's outdoor skatepark facility is now, preserving the positives of both the Trick Factory and the outdoor park, allowing use all year around. This must cater for all types of use – BMX and other bikes, Skateboards, Scooters and It must also cater for all users, including the disabled. "

The group believes the location has advantages of accessibility being central and near the bus station, safety because it is close to the police station and, because it is owned by the town - meaning here would be no more of the uncertainties caused by the private ownership of the property where the Trick Factory was located.

Mr Scadding added: "The plan would allow for at least a reasonable amount of free access, perhaps with some of the ramps outside and subsidies that would ensure free access for those who cannot afford it.

"An enclosed facility would have adult oversight at all times when it is open, which greatly adds to safety. Also, the wood allows for flexibility, thereby reducing injuries. The indoor wood layout would be subject to change, as the users decide they would like different configurations.

"We also considered including a café. This could have the added benefit of having a place for parents to watch, hosting birthday parties etc. as well as serving the nearby bus station."

The questions in the open consultation are whether people generally with the outlines of the plan and what other ideas do people have for the preservation and improvement of the town’s BMX, skateboard and scooter facilities.

The next meeting will be held at Bridport Town Hall on Saturday January 21 at 11am. This meeting will be to discuss and questions and ideas brought forward. All are welcome to attend.

The proposal will then be discussed at an open forum before the town council meeting on January 24, in the Town Hall. This will be between 7 and 7.30pm and will be about play areas in Bridport.
