A NATIONWIDE campaign to listen to the demands of all young people - regardless of background, experience or political opinion - is being launched in Bridport on Saturday.

Tina Ellen Lee's Opera Circus and the international EU funded programme The Complete Freedom of Truth are helping to launch Undivided in the South West.

Undivided was founded by 30 young people from across the UK in July with the aim of creating a youth response to the Brexit vote to empower the voices of young voters, and those not old enough to vote, to ensure their views remain at the heart of the negotiations undertaken by the government.

At the launch in Bridport Town Hall on Saturday 30 young people will work with two freelance practitioners from Cardboard Citizens exploring issues that concern them with a participatory discussion with an audience starting at 6.30pm finishing around 8pm.

In 2015, Tina Ellen Lee, Artistic Director of Opera Circus in Bridport was awarded the European Citizens Prize for her work with young people across borders in Europe.

In the same year Jaffer Ali Hussein, Director of SLYNCS youth organisation in Blackburn also won the prize for his work with young people both in the UK and Europe.

The tow prize winners decided they wanted to set up an inter-England exchange between both organisations to bring young people together from two very different parts of the country.

Bridport young people have visited Blackburn and now nine young people, including Jaffer and their youth MP, will be welcomed and hosted by young people in west Dorset.

On its website Undivided says 64 per cent of 18 – 24 year olds voted in the referendum, 75 per cent of these under 25 year olds voted to remain. 1.46 million 16 and 17 year olds were unable to vote. Undivided is now canvassing one million young people for their views.

Tina said: "Undivided say they are not party political and are non-partisan. It is about moving forward and not dwelling on the past. Undivided is about empowering the voices of young people, doing things differently being creative and being bold.

"Opera Circus and TCFT believe that the youth voice mostly goes unheard and that this is a good opportunity for young people to let all of us know what they would like to see the government deliver in terms of future youth policy."

Undivided is completely youth-led and it is mostly focused on online engagement supplemented by meetings in key regions across the UK. If you are under 30 get involved with your suggestions for policy ideas at weareundivided.co.uk
