THRILLSEEKERS are being urged to make sure they sign up for an epic abseil down one an iconic Dorset landmark.

Dorset disability charity Diverse Abilities is offering people the chance to abseil down Hardy’s Monument near Portesham this Sunday.

The charity has been given permission by The National Trust to hold the event, which promises to offer fundraisers the chance to take in spectacular 360 degree panoramic views of the Dorset countryside as they descend 72ft down the monument.

Money raised through sponsorship will go to provide invaluable support to the people Diverse Abilities works with across the wide range of services.

Hardy’s Monument stands on an exposed location above the village of Portesham.

It was built in 1844 in memory of Vice-Admiral Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy, Flag Captain of HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar.

Sharon Wells, events fundraiser at Diverse Abilities, said: “You will get a huge buzz from the excitement of your descent and the achievement of completing the challenge, knowing that you are helping Diverse Abilities provide invaluable support to children and adults with disabilities, and their families.”

To take part participants must be aged eight or older. All participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

No experience is required to take part as all participants will be trained by highly skilled professional abseil instructors, which will ensure the abseil is safe and enjoyable.

The entry fee is £10 person and minimum sponsorship is £100 per person. Teams of four can also sign up for a special price of £30 per team, saving £10.
