INSIGHTS into the creative process will be shared as the creators of a hit musical stage version of Mary Poppins visit Bridport for a special charity event.

Downton Abbey creator and Academy Award winning writer Julian Fellowes will be joined by Olivier Award winning duo George Stiles and Anthony Drewe at Bridport’s Electric Palace on Saturday, June 18.

The trio will shed light on the process and fun involved in writing a musical.

They will also discuss upcoming productions of Half a Sixpence and Wind in the Willows, with actress Caroline Sheen performing songs from the shows as well as from Mary Poppins.

The event will raise funds for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust, Polio Plus and Mercury Musical Developments.

Tim Stiles from Casterbridge Rotary Club said: “My brother, George Stiles, has been a very successful composer of musicals for many years and I’ve finally persuaded him to bring Julian and Ants, his lyricist, down to do a charity concert for us.

“Though I hadn’t expected them to come up with something quite so unique and special.”

He added: “We really have got something very out of the ordinary for the audience. And they’ve agreed to do a question and answer session at the end of the evening.”

Lord Fellowes said: “I am a vice president of the Weldmar Hospice and always like to support them.”

The Musical Makers event is being held from 7.30pm on June 18 at the Electric Palace.

Tickets cost £18 and are available from the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust on 01305 261800 or at weld-hospice.org.uk/musical or from Tim Stiles on 01300 341514.

A reception is to be held at 6pm in the theatre foyer for those who would like to meet the stars on the night.

Tickets for the reception and show are £30.
