A DISCUSSION on the European Union referendum will raise money for charity.

The event, organised by Bridport Labour party, in partnership with Wild and Homeless Books, will raise funding for Medicines’ Sans Frontières.

The charity helps people across the world where the need is greatest, delivering emergency medical aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters or exclusion from healthcare.

Organisers will welcome economics editor at The Guardian, Larry Elliott to speak at the event.

Mr Elliott is a journalist and author and has worked at the national newspaper since 1988. He has also published five books on economic issues.

Mr Elliott will be discussing the possibility of Britain leaving the European Union following the referendum on June 23. He will also discuss what the implications for the UK’s economy in the future could be.

As part of his presentation, Mr Elliott will also be touching on the recent banking crisis, bailouts and whether another collapse could be on the cards. There will also be time dedicated for questions and discussion.

The national Labour Party has come out in support of remaining in the European Union.

Richard Nichols, chairman of Bridport Labour, said: “We are very pleased to be able to host a talk from Larry.

"The EU referendum will have a massive impact on the direction the UK economy takes in the future – and it is important to have a full understanding of the issues involved.

“Larry Elliott is a respected journalist and an expert on the global economy, so it is an ideal opportunity to find out what a Brexit could mean for the UK.”

The talk will take place on Friday, April 29 at 7pm and is open to all. It will be held at Bridport WI Hall on South Street.

Entrance is £3 on the door with all money made going to Medicines’ Sans Frontières.
