JURASSIC Coast ambassador Tony Lambert takes his role so seriously he’s written a book to promote the World Heritage site.

Mr Lambert, the retired head of modern languages at a community college, wants to share his love of the coastline and has written six children’s stories set in, around and above, the Jurassic Coast.

The stories, aimed at children from four to 11, don’t contain heavy-handed references to the geology of the area, even though Mr Lambert is familiar with it.

It is he says, rather a way to attract the attention of families living and holidaying along the 95 mile stretch of World Heritage coastline.

Mr Lambert, who has already had a novel, Flash, A diary of Disaster, published in America, first became a Jurassic champion after his east Devon parish council asked for volunteers to liaise with the Jurassic Coast Trust to help promote the area.

From that he met Mike Green who persuaded him to take on the role of ambassador too and after attending the training Mr Lambert leads walks from Branscombe to Beer.

He said: “We do guided walks and talk about geology and generally interest the visitors who come to the Jurassic Coast which is becoming more and more popular.”

Mr Lambert had already written five children’s stories for a publisher who subsequently went bust and after discussion with the Jurassic trust he decided to write another story and adapt al six to fit the coastal links.

He also works part-time as a tour manager travelling with groups of Americans who come to visit the area. Included in the book - which Lyme Regis Magic Oxygen agreed to publish - is a dedication to the Jurassic Coast Trust with promotion about its ranger scheme for youngsters.

He is planning to tour local schools, has already been to the Charmouth Heritage Centre and will be at Lyme Regis Fossil Festival from April 30 to May 1.

Although Mr Lambert is busy promoting his book Tales for Children from the Jurassic Coast, he isn’t ruling out another having thoroughly enjoyed writing this one.

The book is available on Amazon.
