YOU might have seen the work the Landmark Trust did restoring John Fowles' home Belmont in Lyme Regis on the Channel 4 documentaries.

Now you can see first hand when the trust opens the house to the public for free from 10am – 4pm on Saturday February 13 and Sunday February 14.

The Landmark Trust opened the newly-restored Belmont, a Grade II* listed eighteenth-century seaside villa, in September 2015 after eight years of pains-taking research and two years of work on site.

Owned for nearly 40 years by the pioneering businesswoman Eleanor Coade (1732-1821), Belmont has also been home to keen astronomer Dr Richard Bangay (1834-1933) and author John Fowles (1926-2005).

Landmark spokesman Amy Taylor said: "It is a fine surviving example of the type of seaside villa that emerged during the second half of the eighteenth century, a time of social and cultural change when sea bathing, sea views and informal homes away from cities grew in popularity.

"During the open days, visitors are welcome to look around the restored house and garden and visit the permanent exhibition in the adjacent former stables."
