A DRIVER seriously injured in a crash on the A35 near Bridport remains in a 'life threatening' condition, police said today.

A silver Peugeot 306 was being driven toward Dorchester when it left the road at Walditch and collided with a tree at just after 2.15pm on Friday.

The driver – a 27-year-old man from Bridport – sustained life threatening injuries and was airlifted by the ambulance service to Southampton General Hospital.

Police said today his condition had not changed.

The A35 was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the incident and collision investigators examined the scene. It was reopened just before 5.30pm.

PC James Howes, of Dorset Police’s Road Traffic Unit, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw the manner of driving of the Peugeot immediately before or at the time of the incident, to please call me on 101.
