LIFEBOAT volunteers were launched to reports of ‘a body in the water’ in Lyme Regis – only for the object to be confirmed as driftwood.
The Lyme Regis RNLI lifeboat was launched last night, Sunday August 23, following a report of an object, possibly a body, in the water off Church Cliffs east of the town.
After an extensive sweep of the area, driftwood was found at Broad Ledge.
A lifeboat crew member was landed on the Ledge rocks and the driftwood was identified as the mystery floating object.
The incident was recorded as a false alarm with good intent.
The lifeboat launched at 5.48pm and returned at 6.45pm.
